Hanukkah (Chanukah) is the Jewish wintertime “festival of lights” that is celebrated for eight days. An additional candle on a menorah is lit each night as the holiday progresses. It is a time for reciting prayers, singing songs, and enjoying special food with family (plus, some families give small presents each night). The Hebrew word Chanukah means “dedication.” Chanukah celebrates the recovery of Jerusalem and rededication of the Holy Temple.
This year, Chanukah will be December 14th through December 22nd. The Chabad of Pittsford coordinates Menorah Lighting Ceremonies around the Greater Rochester area. Check out all these great events available throughout Rochester to celebrate with your family this year!
