There are some great hot spots for coffee in Rochester. Looking for a new regular drink or seasonal treat? Check out these local coffee shops in the greater Rochester area. Some have coffee for wholesale or by subscription. Some have fancy specialty coffees and locally-made pastries. Some have been roasting coffee for a few decades. Enjoy!

Albunn Coffee House | Rochester

As the newest addition to the Rochester coffee scene, Albunn stands out for its Yemini traditional coffee and late-night hours. Considered one of the oldest coffee origins and known to be “deep and dark,” these beautiful drinks pair with gorgeous pastries and desserts, too. Albunn is open until 12am, making it a nightlife option as well as an early morning pick-me-up. It’s an Instagram-worthy spot right on East Ave.

Boulder Coffee Roasters | Rochester

Celebrating 20 years in 2025, Boulder can now be considered a Rochester staple. The locally roasted coffee beans, community artist space, and eclectic, cozy atmosphere all make it a place to visit in the South Wedge. However, the all-day breakfast or delicious lunch offers a wide range of options for any diet. Check the calendar on Boulder’s website for local events. 

Cafe Sasso Coffee & Cocktails | Rochester

Three excellent things about Cafe Sasso: no Wi-fi, quirkily adorned walls, and The Notorious BLT. The unique combination of coffee and cocktails provides a meeting place at mismatched tables or cozy, comfortable chairs from open to close (8-8 every day). Highly recommend the Sweet Caroline to start the day and The Gatsby for a midday pick-me-up.

Clementine | Rochester

The menu at Clementine features its owner’s Mexican heritage. These flavors, along with welcoming baristas, provide a bright atmosphere to enjoy the snowiest winter day in Rochester. The drinks and atmosphere are Instagram-worthy, too! For a change, try the Orange Creamsicle or iced Sueño de Miel y Matcha, a matcha with toasted honey, vanilla, and banana milk.

Equal Grounds Community Cafe | South Wedge

The name says it all: this is a place to gather. It’s a friendly environment for friends or a solo person in need of free Wi-fi. There is an outdoor space to enjoy and a wide selection of food and beverages. Particularly of note on its menu is the chai smoothie. 

Fairpour Coffee Roasters | Fairport

Fairpour is a small-batch coffee roaster along with a cozy cafe. Its hustle and bustle includes individuals working on the strong Wi-fi or moms catching up (with or without kids!). There is a full food menu alongside the drink menu. Adventurous eaters might try the G.O.A.T., while those who prefer something more traditional can stick to an elevated Breakfast Wrap or Avo Toast. Currently, they are perfecting the recipe of their new kombucha line.

Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters | Pittsford

Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters is wall-to-wall beans from all over the world. These roasters have been in business for over 25 years and have traveled the world seeking the best beans for any occasion and palate. The Pittsford Plaza location is not just a place to buy beans, though; it’s a great place to sample the coffee its friendly employees are brewing. They also have muffins and scones to pair.

Founder’s Cafe | Pittsford

Founder’s Cafe might be a perfect place to try fair-trade coffee and a slice of quiche. Or, there is a wide offering of hot and cold sandwiches, salads, and rice bowls all made from scratch. Whether your preference is drip, Chemex, or a shot of espresso, Founder’s in the historic Academy building is a great place to get it.

Fuego Coffee Roasters | Rochester

Fuego works to build sustainable relationships with coffee farmers in El Salvador and Colombia. This ethical sourcing practice means that, from seed to cafe to cup, Fuego is committed to creating positive and ethical change. Want to support their cause? Choose a subscription service that keeps your household in ethically sourced beans regularly! The cafe sources sweets from across Rochester in The Red Fern and Ridge Donuts, along with its coffee drinks.

Hydra Coffeehouse | Rochester

Hydra serves gelato (!!) alongside its coffee and house-made bakery goods. This two-story converted house includes a sweet patio as well. Located right on Monroe Ave and serving up specialty drinks, Hydra also has in-house art installations to complete its ambiance as cool, bright, and airy. It’s the perfect place to meet a friend or have a solo date.

Java’s Cafe | Rochester

Java’s is the place to get medium to dark roasted coffee. Open for over 30 years, this cafe is located right next to the Eastman School of Music and offers community tables, a pool table, and magazines to read. There is free internet with indoor and outdoor seating. Sign up for the “Non-Stop Coffee Club” so you never run out of Java’s ethically sourced, locally roasted coffee.

Joe Bean Roasters | Rochester

Located in the North Winton Neighborhood, this roastery welcomes visitors Monday-Friday 8am – 5pm. However, you can visit Joe Bean’s website to order their signature coffee 24/7! This women-owned business is committed to carefully cultivated relationships with small-scale sustainable coffee farmers, single origin coffees, and eco-conscious roasting practices. Its exceptional coffee has won awards for not only its taste but also the ways in which you can feel extra good about drinking it!

Little Bits Coffee Roasters | Irondequoit

Little Bits opened in 2025 with much anticipation. Its menu, full of sandwiches served on hard rolls (substitutes available) or wraps named after Irondequoit streets, and its prime location made it a quick neighborhood favorite. Sweeter than its pastries, though, is its story: the owner named the cafe in honor of his mom who “always wanted to open a cozy place serving a little bit of this and that, alongside family.” Coffee beans are also for sale in-house.

Little House Roc | Rochester

If a frozen banana with an espresso sounds good, Rochester now has the place to indulge. There are also pastries and plenty of drink options. As of August 2025, this is a brand new place, but if it’s anything like its sister, Voula’s Rochester, it’s sure to be a hit.

Mamaste Cafe and Play | Hilton

While Mamaste is a great place to pop in and grab a specialty drink on the way to work, it also has an indoor playground for a nominal fee. There is a wide range of toys for all ages, it’s clean and well-maintained, and it offers a cool or warm place to play in any of Rochester’s seasons. The menu offers staples like drip coffee, lattes, or tea, but its seasonal drink menu is something to behold with its clever names and unique flavor combinations. The kid snack plates are SO cute and pair perfectly with a mama’s bagel sandwich. Highly recommend the veggie wrap!

Melo Coffee | Rochester

Melo Coffee self-describes as “Simple, honest food done well — that’s our vibe.” With local partners and farm-fresh food, it’s easy to understand why Melo’s all-day breakfast, including a to-die-for burrata toast, is a Rochester favorite. Enjoy a wide range of espresso drinks on the patio right on the corner of University and Atlantic.

Neutral Ground Coffeehouse | Pittsford, Rochester

Each location of Neutral Ground has its own benefits. In Pittsford, enjoy ice cream with your coffee any time of day and a walk along the Erie Canal. At the Corn Hill location only, try a yummy breakfast pizza. What can you expect at both locations? Award-winning chili, positive vibes, and locally roasted coffee like Cobblestone Roasters and CDGA Coffee Co.

New City Cafe & Roastery | Rochester

New City’s mission makes it a special part of Rochester’s coffee scene. Committed to lifting up their community by hiring local teens and young adults, they “bring hope, healing, and holistic development to the Beechwood neighborhood.” New City also roasts and sells coffee sourced from fairly traded, high-quality coffee. Standouts on the cafe menu beyond coffee are the kid-friendly, build-your-own smoothies.

New Roots Coffee House | Greece

Among all the chain coffee places in Greece, New Roots stands out for its local connection to the area. Its owner started the shop to provide both a food allergy-conscious dining experience and a performance space. Nearly all of the bakery items, paninis, snacks, drinks, and salads are allergen-free or can be made so. Mamas who struggle to treat your kids with allergies — run, don’t walk!

Pearsons | Rochester

The best part about Pearsons is that you just never know what’s going to come off the sheet pan rack! Sweet or savory, everything is delicious. In addition to its creative and rotating baked goods, there is a steady menu of sandwiches, strong Wi-fi, and a good vibe. Parking is not the easiest to navigate, but it’s worth it to snag a table at the coffee bar and sip a cold-pressed juice or espresso with one of Pearson’s house-made syrups like calico, a mix of mocha, coconut, and caramel.

Pure Imagination Cafe | Gates

While the Dark Chocolate Pistachio or Snickerdoodle Latte might be worth the trip to Pure Imagination on its own, the indoor play and reading area for kids will extend the visit. Exclusive sandwiches like “The David Rose” or “The Kaz Brekker” and a straightforward kids’ menu provide something for every guest to enjoy.

RoCoCo | Rochester

RoCoCo offers both full service and online ordering from a relatively simple but stable menu of coffee and tea drinks. Whether it’s a quick pick-up or leisurely stay in the large space inside Mercantile on Main, the friendly staff will be happy to see you! A toddler or small kid might enjoy running around inside Mercantile on Main as well. It’s included in family-friendly places to eat in Rochester, too, so it would be a great place to check out!

Sips Coffee & Cafe | Charlotte

Located within five minutes of Lake Ontario and two of our top Ten Playgrounds, this is the perfect cozy place to pop in for a to-go coffee! There’s a homemade soup daily, creative and rotating specialty drinks, and a wide range of local artists’ work displayed for purchase. Don’t forget a cookie or muffin, also freshly baked every day!

Tree Town Cafe | Brighton

Tree Town Cafe has something for everyone: a gift market, a bakery cart, plenty of seating, a kids’ indoor and outdoor play area, and a vast menu. The menu updates regularly, so be sure to check their socials (Instagram or Facebook).

Ugly Duck Coffee | Rochester

Ugly Duck Coffee is a third wave shop that offers drip coffee and espresso drinks, including specialty drinks. They offer a rotating selection of roasters from around the country, as well as Ithaca’s Gimme Coffee consistently. The vibe is fun, the staff is kind and efficient, and the walls are a rotating gallery for local artists. The vegan pastries from Black Cat and Flour City’s buttery croissants offer something for everyone. there’s no WiFi to encourage conversation. Bonus for families: there’s a changing table in the bathroom.

Union Place Coffee Roasters | Henrietta

Union Place’s website makes a great case for how a morning cup of coffee can support an entire network of local businesses. Local businesses provide baked goods, coffee accessories, and specialty food products that enhance the coffee drinking experience. The coffee roaster offers a “coffee of the month.” Its cafe and coffee shop provide seasonal drinks and “coffee of the day.” Use Union Place’s online store to ship coffee gift boxes for any occasion.

Union Street Coffee House | Spencerport

You will be the star of your next event if you bring Union Street’s baklava or biscotti. Breakfast sandwiches are served all day, along with savory and sweet food options, and hot or cold drinks. There is plenty of seating on the patio or inside, so you can stay a while and enjoy your time in Spencerport.

Village Bakery & Cafe | Rochester, Pittsford, Webster, Victor

Across all its locations, Village Bakery provides consistency, whether it’s breakfast, lunch, coffee drinks, or bakery items. Its iconic rooster logo means sourcing the freshest, local ingredients and avoiding additives. There is a kids’ menu, but just as likely, they will love the PB & Banana Smoothie or Almond Croissant found in the packed bakery case. Be sure to grab a loaf of bread to take home with you! PS — They make cakes and provide catering, too.

Winter Swan | Rochester

Winter Swan’s Instagram-worthy atmosphere and drinks make it a place to stop by for a matcha or espresso drink. Woman-owned with Asian-inspired flavors, it’s sure to tempt the palate looking for a unique taste. It’s exquisitely decorated inside Stacy K. Floral, and right next to Scratch Bakeshop. All around a beautiful and sweet trip!
