The Rochester Public Market is a well-known place to get fresh, local foods. It has served our community for over 100 years and continues to be a hub for both shopping and entertainment. How do I get there?

The Rochester Public Market is accessible by driving, bicycling, walking (depending on your location), and bus (Union and Trinidad stop).

Where do I park?

There are several parking lots available within a short walk of the Public Market. The most parking is available early in the morning or later in the day. Mid-mornings tend to be the busiest. Do I need cash?

Many vendors only accept cash. Some vendors of more expensive items accept cards. The Market Token Program Center behind the Market Office allows customers to use their SNAP benefits to make purchases.

How do I carry my purchases?

You can bring your own reusable bags, a backpack, or a rolling cart to carry purchases in. The market is usually bustling with people, so larger wagons can be difficult to maneuver.

Will I get lost at the market?

The market is a large place with several buildings, so it is good to go when you have time to wander and can get to know the area. A map is available on their website. You will find the vendors in the “sheds” and entertainment in the middle area.

Are there public bathrooms?

Yes! There are well-maintained public bathrooms in Shed B and in the Market Office.

When is the market open?

The market is open from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays year-round (except for federal holidays).

Types of Vendors

While the Public Market is know for its variety of local farm pruducts, it has a broad offering of vendors. At the market you can find international produce, seafood, baked goods, and prepared and packaged foods. There are also general merchandisers, retail shops, and specialty items. And for those looking to eat while at the market there are food stands, cafes, coffee shops, and breweries. It is fun to return to the Public Market regularly to visit the vendors you love and to see what new vendors are there for the day. More information can be found on their website.

Other Tips and Tricks

Since the Public Market is large and has so many vendors, we recommend that you walk the market to get an idea of pricing and what is available. Then, you can make any purchases as you walk back to your car. If you are looking for the best prices, some vendors may be willing to negotiate better pricing later in the day or with bulk purchases. We also encourage shoppers to get to know the vendors and where their products come from. Some vendors bring farm fresh goods and unique items, while others are resellers.
