Something I’ve learned over the years is it is important to spend quality time with your spouse and also with other adults. And neither of those things are easy when you’re a mom drowning in a sea of sports practices, meal planning, school events, and all the things, big and small, that life throws our way. So why not cross both off the list by planning a double date?

I’m a better parent when I prioritize this kind of quality time, so to avoid the burnout of motherhood I try to be intentional about making plans that don’t revolve around my kids. Even though I usually obsess over what fancy food I’m going to indulge in on our night out, I’m a firm believer that the best dates are more than just a meal. I’m sharing some of my favorite local spots for date night ideas that are perfect for bringing friends along.

Arcade Games & Dinner Date Night

Start with a round of arcade games at The Playhouse//Swillburger. Grab a drink and revisit your childhood with classics like pinball, Pac-Man, Skee-Ball, Guitar Hero, and foosball. If you’re having such a blast that you don’t want to leave, their burgers and tots are incredible. Or, head across the street to Crisp. This woman-owned restaurant is known for their delicious modern comfort food.

Pizza & Live Music Date Night

Pizza Wizard, located in the South Wedge, is known for their thick square pizzas and nickel-thin pizzas, both which can be ordered with an array of outrageous toppings. After filling up, check out Rochester Beer Park, an indoor/outdoor venue that has a quirky nostalgic vibe and regularly hosts concerts of a variety of genres.

Brewery & A Meal

Start your date with a beer (or glass of wine) while enjoying a view of the Erie Canal at Lock 32 Brew in Pittsford. Time it right and you’ll get to enjoy live music, with musicians performing most Saturdays and Sundays. Then stroll along the canal to Label – a personal favorite where I’ve enjoyed everything from their “Angry Caesar Salad” to their chicken and waffles. Afterwards, if you’re trying to avoid the bedtime routine back at home, a short walk will bring you to Artisan Gelato & Espresso for some dessert.

Wine Bar & Fine Dining

The unique wine stations at Unwine’d in Rochester allow you to explore a variety of wines at your own pace. Their food menu offers charcuterie and hot dips if you find yourself wanting to spend a little more time enjoying the cozy yet sophisticated space. Your next stop is Patron Saint, known for their exceptional food, service, and atmosphere. A mouthwatering meal awaits, and customer reviews note that the food is worth every penny.

Bowling & Drinks For A Fun Double Date

At Okay Beer Co. you’ll find three essential elements for a great double date: craft beer (and other drinks), elevated pub fare, and bowling. Their retro atmosphere gives off such relaxing and fun vibes that you may even decide to come back with the kids. If you do decide to bring the family (and don’t want to spend the whole time digging the ball of out the gutter) their outdoor space offers plenty of other activities like cornhole and horseshoes to keep everyone busy.

If lately it seems like you spend all your time prioritizing your children, let this be your sign to prioritize you. Rochester has so much to offer – grab your spouse (and another couple who can miraculously find a babysitter on the same night) and go enjoy yourselves!
