Halloween Crafts For Kids

Tissue Box Monsters

Paper, pipe cleaners, empty tissue box, scissors, glue stick, and markers laid out on a table. A finished Tissue Box Monster with big eyes, antenna, and sharp teeth.

Materials You’ll Need:

  • Empty tissue box
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Paper
  • Scissors
  • Markers
  • Glue stick

Decorate the tissue box to look like a monster! We covered ours in red tissue paper because we didn’t have a red tissue box that my toddler wanted. I used white printer paper to cut out triangles for teeth and circles for eyeballs, which we glued to the box. I poked two holes in the top of the box to stick pipe cleaners in for antennas. My son colored on the teeth with a red marker to make them look bloody.

Pinecone Bats

Halloween crafts: Three pinecone bats decorated in various ways.

Materials You’ll Need:

  • Pinecone
  • Construction paper
  • Googly eyes
  • String
  • Glue
  • (optional) Hot glue gun
  • Anything you want to decorate the bat wings

Start by drawing bats on construction paper and cutting them out. (You can find free bat templates like this one online if you’re not confident in your drawing abilities. Drawing a whole bat works because the bat’s body leaves space for the pinecone.) Cut out triangles to make teeth using white paper. If you want to hang the bats, attach the string to the pinecone first, poke a hole through the center of the wings, thread the string through, and then glue the wings to the pinecone. Once the wings are on, glue on the eyes and teeth. I used a hot glue gun for these steps and then had my son use a glue stick to decorate the wings. He chose to use glitter, Halloween-shaped confetti, and more googly eyes.

This craft was a little tricky at first, but once you figure out the first one, it is easy to do more. They turned out so cool! I love using the pinecones we collected outside, and we can use these as Halloween decorations for years to come!

Pipe Cleaner Spiders

Halloween crafts: a table full of pipe cleaners, pom-poms, beads, and googly eyes. A cute, colorful, fuzzy pom-pom spider sits on a table.

Materials You’ll Need:

  • Pipe cleaners
  • Pom-poms
  • Googly eyes
  • Beads
  • Glue or a hot glue gun

Start by choosing pom-poms and pipe cleaners for your spider’s body, head, and legs. Cut each pipe cleaner in half or thirds (depending on how tall you want the spider to be). Glue two pom-poms together to make the body and head. Attach the googly eyes and decorate the legs with beads before gluing them on as well.

Footprint or Handprint Painting

I love doing these hand/foot paint crafts with my kids for the holidays because it captures their size in the moment. We use these as seasonal decorations at my house and get to look at how much they’ve grown each year. Tip: I typically make this craft work by doing the hand or foot print first, and then let the kids play with paint on their own canvas while I add the words or decorations to the keepsake. Needless to say, it always ends in bath time! Be prepared for it to be messy and potentially take a few tries to get right.

Materials You’ll Need:

  • Paper or canvas
  • Paint
  • Paintbrush or sponge
  • (optional) Stencils for letters/Googly eyes, etc.
  • Clear sealant to preserve your artwork
