When it is cold out, it’s the perfect time to whip up some hot chocolate! Making your own Hot Chocolate Bar is a fun winter activity to do with your kids, a party theme or a fun winter date night at home. You can also make your own hot chocolate or use instant! There really is no right or wrong way to set up a Hot Chocolate Bar. Here is some inspiration for making your own!

For The Kids

My kids love the chance to have hot chocolate, but it can’t be too hot for them. As someone who easily burns her tongue, this is a big concern for me. I give our hot chocolate some time to cool or add an ice cube or half and half. We start drinking hot chocolate in the fall on our pumpkin walking trails so I got some kids travel cups so they can easily carry their drink and keep from spilling it. Adding marshmallows is the best part of hot chocolate to my boys. Just like when we make cookies, adding the chips or candy to their bowl is their favorite part. They love the chance to make their own sweet creations and a hot chocolate bar for a fun Saturday evening activity is right up their alley.

For our Hot Chocolate Bar, I had red and pink M&Ms, Valentine’s Day Chocolate Spoons from Target, different sizes of marshmallows, chocolate syrup and whipped cream.

For The Adults

For a more adult party or a date night, you can find hot cocoa bombs to make your drink extra fun. You can also make some boozy hot chocolate by adding flavored liquor, Peppermint Schnapps or Bailey’s Irish Cream. Adding coffee to make your own Cafe Mocha might also be something that you would like to try!

Toppings

When it comes to a Hot Chocolate Bar, the one must-have is fun options to add into your mug. You can find different themed goodies like chocolate spoons and candies for fall, Christmas and Valentine’s Day. Here are some ideas for toppings to add to your Hot Chocolate Bar!

  • Mini Marshmallows
  • Large Marshmallows
  • Chocolate Chips
  • Cookies
  • M&Ms
  • Candy Canes
  • Peppermint Sticks
  • Coconut Snowflakes
  • Cinnamon Sticks
  • Chocolate Spoons
