About M is for Mindful

“M is for Mindful” is a nature-based ABC/poetry book used in homes, schools, and therapy offices around the country to teach literacy and help cultivate self-awareness, compassion, respect for diversity, and other practices—for an intentional, balanced, considerate life. Lesson plans, as well as an aligned coloring book and creativity journal, are available.

National award-winning journalist Robin L. Flanigan and professional illustrator Heather S. Jones have paired inspiring verses with vibrant, kid-friendly paintings in their book, which has earned praise from world-renowned mindfulness experts and celebrities including Arun Gandhi, Sharon Salzberg, Andie MacDowell, and Temple Grandin.

Those who homeschool can use the book to start rich conversations about how to attain—and maintain—a meaningful connection with ourselves, each other, and the world we live in.

Among the educator endorsements:

“I read one page from ‘M is for Mindful’ each day with my first-graders as we get our minds ready for learning. The students even read it during recess, and have many of the pages memorized. This book seems to meet a need for them, and its messages will have a positive impact long after they leave me.”
—Kerry Burnett, teacher

“Using simple rhymes and vivid illustrations, ‘M is for Mindful’ describes for children the ways in which they can control their emotions, develop positive relationships, demonstrate empathy, and set goals. This book should be in every elementary classroom and school library!”
—Lynn Gatto, Director of Elementary Education at the University of Rochester’s Warner School of Education
